Introducing our new blog!

Hello…Dr. Tim here! Candy asked me to write the first blog post for our brand new blog.  We are certainly excited about this new chapter in our life together. Granted, we will soon start paying off our student loans, and as all of our friends who have taken the sometimes crazy road to completing a terminal degree can attest, it is going to be a pretty big monthly expense (times two!).

We have talked about getting the itch to blog again for the last couple of months. We had our old blog up for over five years, but it did not seem to fit our life as it stands now. After all, we are not really on a sabbatical any longer; it is our everyday life now and we could not think of doing anything else! So, on one of our various road trip journeys we came up with the name of a new blog, which you are now reading.

We know that our life will change slightly with the newly minted Dr. Candy powering through on her quest to earn her Ph.D. We are pretty excited by what God has in store, although certainly not sure of what that will be. Many of you might chuckle at this statement, as Candy and I have pretty much lived by faith when it comes to His next step for nearly 20 years together. That is why we came up with the motto of this blog of “Obeying the call. Living now. No limits.” Simply put, we truly follow the call that He gives us in our life together and live today like it is all that we have, and live it without apology.

I have spoken with some friends who have said that we walk to the beat of a different drummer; perhaps they are correct. I suppose we all have certain beliefs that we hold dear that may be looked at by some as weird or strange. I just know this…if you have passion to do something and feel like it is what you were made to do, why not go out on a limb? We did in June 2010 and have not looked back.

We hope that this blog can offer you different ways of looking at life and questioning what it is or could be. Are we saying that our way is perfect? No way! What we are saying is that it is perfect for us.

Alright…enough of the philosophical gobbledygook. We are excited to launch this new blog and adventure with the trip of our lives to Europe. We leave on Tuesday, August 25thheading to Dublin with an immediate connecting flight to London for three days. There, we will take in some of the sights and meet-up with some good friends from my Raquette Lake Camps days. Then, we embark on a week-long cruise on Holland America Line from Harwich, England to Norway. Thereafter, we will spend a week in Galway, Ireland, where we will be working for most of the trip with good friend Ciaran Murphy at St. Mary’s College, an all-boy’s Catholic school. We have a one-week trip to Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera just between Nice and Monaco for our 20th wedding anniversary on September 16th, then back to Galway to work for four weeks with the boys at St. Mary’s.

Alright…it is time to hold on and get ready for some insights, pictures, and some other cool stuff. Thanks for being on this journey with us. Until the next post, make today your masterpiece!

      Brad,

Thanks for the nice comment. It is 3:13 am here and (you guessed it) I am grading. The time change is interesting…figured I would stay up and grade all night to get my body acclimated. I brought my Ski-U-Mah shirt that you gave me, so look for it in pics coming up.

Boy, I’m glad I kept this link as a shortcut on my desktop. I have checked it on and off over the past couple years, and am glad that you are posting again. You and Candy lead such interesting lives, and I enjoy being able to see the world through the lens of someone else. Your posts are interesting, insightful, and inspiring. Your experiences give me a glimpse of what life could be like, if I ever decide to move away from boring, safe, and predictable. Keep living life on the edge!

    Love you guys.

    John
