On April 14th Tim and I went for a quick circle drive out into Connemara. We drove through the charming village of Roundstone, which has a really cool walled overlook of the marina and water as you make your way up into the village.
We followed R341 around around from Roundstone to Ballyconneely and up toward Clifden. Just south of Clifden we suddenly discovered stunning stretches of sandy beach and Caribbean-colored water! Turns out we had arrived at the Mannin Bay Blueway area! Talk about gorgeous!
We stopped for a while and walked the small beach closest to the road. We were the only people there when we arrived, but before long we were joined by a variety of visitors, including a VW van from which emerged 4 colorful hippies. As we were leaving, a black lab puppy and its female human arrived and we were entertained with memories of Chase at that age as the puppy explored the beach, the rocks, and the water before beginning to orbit. So cute!
We continued on to Clifden (video) and from there returned to Galway. I intend to get back to the beaches before I leave in July. The weather we’ve been having lately makes the idea of spending an afternoon there quite a lovely thing to contemplate!
